Proteomics for biomedical disease research

Proteomics approach provides a new paradigm in biomedical research. Traditional bioresearches were performed more or less by 'biased' approaches. However, it is necessary to have 'unbiased' methodology to reveal the complex phenomenon in the biological systemsand discover specific target for a disease. Proteomics is a good discipline for 'unbiased' approaches. Proteomics can be applied to a variety of areas.  Basic researches include simple protein expression study, post-translational modification study, global cell signal dissection and so on. In a clinical area, biomarker discovery is booming to detect a disease-, clinical condition- or evaluation-specific marker. In this presentation, I will present basic concept of proteomics, the role of mass spectrometry in proteomics, current issues of proteomics, special application of proteomics to pathology, important issues to be considered for proteomic studies, and our studies about phosphorylation site identification, protein-protein interaction and biomarker discovery incancer patients.
